You guys seem to have forgotten that this is a cell phone. Don't compare it to the PSP nor the DS; try the N-gage.cronus233
Well...obviously people are only comparing graphics, iphone won't be competing with DS anyway, but mobile phones gaming is quite big and lucrative market already and it will only get bigger in upcoming years.

Ad Ngage in it's old form is dead, Ngage today is just a shared platform for games on Nokia smartphones and while original Ngage was a joke, the new one..well...Nokia is selling about 60 mln Ngage compatibile smartphones a year.

With Ngage, iPhone and the upcoming developments like Nvidia mobile gpu, the future of mobile phones gaming will be very bright

If they get it to work with Verizon then I will buy one. This is something I have been wanting for awhile. I always thought the idea of NGage was before it time. I don't think it will be long maybe another 5 years until Nintendo and Sony follow suit.

There's an obvious risk,

AdrianWerner

what's the risk here? It's not like they are putting iphone as a DS competitor. Gaming on mobile phones is a whole separate market that's growing fast, it wouldn't make any sense for Apple to not do what their competitors are doing. Why stay behind?

You answered your own question - the cell phone market is not the gaming market. There are not, for example, a large number of children dictating the buying decisions of high-end smart phones. If Apple were to treat this as though it were the gaming market, they would quickly make the iPhone the next N-Gage. What they're doing is making the iPhone a better phone, rather than trying to make a Gameboy that is also a phone.

-

It would be a huge risk for Apple to make the iPhone a primarily gaming-targeted device, rather than a multimedia (including gaming) savvy smart phone.

And this is how ngage 2 platform games look like ( nokia sells about 60-70 million ngage enabled smartphones a year so the 10 million i-phones are a small part of mobile gaming)\

Iphone is awesome, but I think it will be lousy for gaming. It might have a few niche games that use the tilt controls okay, but 99% of games need buttons and a control pad. I see gaming on the Iphone as an exercise in frustration.

Not bad at all.

And iphone 3G for $199

Must buy confirmed!!

kashim123

3G is horrible even for standard Ipods, but for an Iphone? That's the biggest rip-off I've ever seen. IMO the minimum gigs for an Iphone should be 30.

Hhahahahaha omg...yes

3G is a standard for data transmission - not the number of gigs of storage that the iPhone has :D

Not only that but they decreased the price of the phone but increased the cost of the service. I read an article this morning that broke it out, in the end you end up spending $240 more on the service over two years than before.

The specs suggest it might be more competitive with the PSP's visuals than we thought. We'll see once some more real devs get a hold of the PSP. The Super Monkey Ball devs said they had to fly in an extra developer to UPgrade the visuals before presenting the demo of the game. And they did it in 2 weeks.

Imagine devs with plenty of time and talent making a game! :)

Dreams-Visions

I think you're being a little too optimistic. Technically the Ps3 is more powerful than the 360 and the Wii is more powerful than the gamecube. But other than the odd exception you wouldn't think it

The iphone sounds as if it is quite a bit more powerful but i doubt you'lll ever see a game with the visual fidelity of crisis core or god of war coo. Besides the deviice is hardly market. It is a phone first and foremost (one of many). It is prohibitively expensive and developer support is lukewarm at best. Expect to see the likes of peggle, the sims etc but nothing like the constant stream of goodness the DS gets
